About the Course Instructors:
After almost losing her leg to Dermatillomania in 2014, Lauren McKeaney set out to transform herself and the underreported, misunderstood Skin Picking Disorder community. In 2016 Lauren founded the only nonprofit worldwide focused on Skin Picking, the Picking Me Foundation NFP, funding initiatives that provide awareness, support, and advocacy for sufferers, supporters, and educational communities. With over 27 years of personal, real life experience with Dermatillomania, Lauren offers an intimate and unique understanding of the illness. Lauren shares with listeners that practice makes progress not perfect, self-love isn’t selfish it’s self-care, and #PickingMe over Skin Picking is the ultimate freedom.
Aneela Idnani is Cofounder and President of HabitAware. Aneela co-invented Keen2, a smart bracelet and app system to empower people with compulsive hair pulling, skin picking and nail biting to take control and shift to healthier stress-relieving behaviors. HabitAware is a TIME Magazine Best Invention and holds research grant awards from the National Institute of Mental Health and National Science Foundation.
Having grown up struggling with hair-pulling disorder (trichotillomania), Aneela is now an outspoken mental health advocate, author, and TEDx speaker raising awareness of these very common yet unknown conditions. She serves on the advisory boards of LaunchMN, BetaMN, and the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) Twin Cities Chapter.
