Skin Picking is not an exact science. We all have good days and bad days; times where we may pick for hours and others where we'll be pick-free. If you find yourself having a picking episode, the important thing to remember is that you shouldn't beat yourself up over it. By accepting that this is a compulsive disorder and that it does not reflect anything negative about you, you can then work towards managing this disorder. Here are a few tips from CEO Lauren McKeaney for when you've just picked:
1. Realize what you did, come out of that “zone”, and own it so you can move on
2. Think gentle thoughts
3. Wash your hands with lukewarm water and soap or just water if you’re able
4. If bleeding, grab a tissue, an alcohol pad, and band aid
5. If there is pus, grab a tissue, a tea tree or witch hazel wipe and hydrocolloid pimple patch
6. If scabbing, witch hazel pad, Aquaphor or moisturizer and hydrocolloid patch or bandaid
7. Think how productive and kind these nurturing acts of progress are
